This predatory behavior weaved into the music industry and culture, telling the new generation of musicians that it’s acceptable to harass and abuse fans.

Halloween 2019 seems like a lifetime ago, when My Chemical Romance announced their December reunion show and sent scores of mid 2000s Hot Topic shoppers to emo heaven after a long six years of inactivity. What’s even harder to fathom is the fact that their last full-length outing, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, turns a decade old this year.

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered by police officer Derek Chauvin. Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for approximately eight minutes and 46 seconds. Floyd was unarmed and handcuffed during the strangulation. Since Floyd’s death, numerous musicians, bands, records labels, and industry professionals have participated in the BLM movement in various ways.

Perpetual Doom, a western Massachusetts metal staple, had called it a day in 2000. Phil Labonte went on to Shadows Fall and then All That Remains, Ken Robert and William Brault to Split Shift, and Steve Gonsalves went on to star on TV’s Ghost Hunters. 20 years later, the band is back and ready to revisit their death metal past.
