DEMON HUNTER: Peace

DEMON HUNTER
Peace

SOLID STATE

8/10

MELODIC ATMOSPHERIC METAL: Just two years after the band’s eighth studio album, Outlive, Demon Hunter has returned with its next two releases simultaneously—War and Peace. Understandably, Peace is the more melodic of the two, grounded in primarily clean vocals and haunting melodies. It is also the stronger album with tracks like “Peace,” “When the Devil Come,” and “Recuse Myself” that burrow deep and standout with ease—their choruses are especially memorable and uplifting in execution. The songwriting here also seems to show more thought and feeling, as if greater consideration was put into its creation. Comparably, Peace is more innovative and dynamic than War, seamlessly blending a variety of rock and metal influences to create something powerful and moving, yet foreboding. It fills the veins with energy and propels the listener to move along with its words. It’s the kind of album you take to heart and study through repeated spins. ~ Nathaniel Lay
