Milwaukee band Sex Scenes’ snotty blend of thrash riffs, mid tempo hardcore, and catchy hooks has made them a unique presence in both the hardcore and indie rock/punk scenes around the Midwest.
About “I’ll Play Along“ from the upcoming album Everything Makes Me Sick, singer Sarah Turbo says, “‘I’ll Play Along’ is about a complex relationship dynamic. Specifically, it’s about believing a friend’s narrative of events and their life. But eventually there’s a breaking point when it’s time to speak the truth for the benefit of everyone involved. The intention is to capture the frustration of the lie becoming an outburst and the catharsis of being honest.”
Although the band’s songs are unquestionably rooted in hardcore punk, their sound and presence are distinctly their own, and it’s that signature quality that makes them a fitting presence on most stages. The band’s lineup has shifted throughout the years, and has been fronted by Sarah Turbo since 2021.
A full-length album, Everything Makes Me Sick, is slated to be released May 9th through Big Neck Records.
