SAULT: Seeds of Power

Seeds of Power

HEAVY ROCK: Sault’s dependable, rhythm driven, heavy rock draws influence from 90s alt-grunge rock from bands, such as Tool, Sevendust, and Soundgarden. Sault was initially formed in 2014 as a solo project for Kamelot bassist Sean Tibbetts to give him an outlet to write hookier metallic rock music. Sault’s debut album, Seeds of Power, features guest appearances by members of King Diamond, One Eyed Doll, and more. Its nine hard-hitting tracks have a perfect 35 minute runtime. Unfortunately, the trippy instrumental opener is a two minute spoken word piece with little payoff. However, the midpaced rocker “Guilt” makes up for wasted time with its grunge-laden riffs and soaring Chris Cornell vocals courtesy of vocalist Riggs, with Kamelot drummer Casey Grillo providing some solid groundwork. The track’s sense of urgency and vibrant melodies exemplifies Sault’s sound perfectly. From the soaring melodies of “Adonai,” to the modern rock flavor of “Entropy,” to the 90s alt-grunge swagger of “Fragile,” Sault delivers with conviction. “A Peaceful Moment” contains an edgy Soundgarden vibe with plenty of fast rhythm spots and well placed guitar melodies. Seeds of Poweris a solid mainstream rock metal album performed with precision. Plus, with its impressive list of guest musicians, this will most likely drive Sault’s stock up immensely. ~ Kelley Simms
