Influences and Essentials: THE GEMS

Rising from the ashes, THE GEMS redefines the very essence of rock music with the band’s recently released debut album, Phoenix, via Napalm Records. With unwavering determination and raw talent, this trio hailing from Stockholm, Sweden is ready to rewrite the rules and inspire a new era.

The explosive trio consists of incomparable rock vocalist Guernica Mancini, powerhouse drummer Emlee Johansson, and guitar and bass virtuoso Mona “Demona” Lindgren. Breaking free from the confines of their previous band, Thundermother, they united under the banner of THE GEMS, igniting a seismic shift in the rock scene. Inspired by legends such as Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden, THE GEMS breathes new life into the genre, infusing it with raw power and untamed energy.

THE GEMS INFLUENCES

QUEEN: “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Queen is a big inspiration for our sound. They made great classic rock and were true rockers in our opinion because they were not afraid of trying different sounds and styles. They have managed to write musically complicated songs that still are easy for many people to love. We are very inspired by their epic personas and music, and they have also inspired us to have the courage to have lots of different influences and vibes and to try out new things all throughout the album.

VAN HALEN: “Hot for Teacher”

Van Halen is a band that is larger than life, and they too did exactly what they wanted, for example: start a song with a long drum solo. They have a fun, happy, and cheeky attitude in their music that we just love. Eddie Van Halen’s guitar playing was very technical, experimental, and crazy, while also catchy. Something that inspires how we approach guitar riffs in our music.

SCORPIONS: “Still Loving You”

We think that Scorpions make great power ballads. When we toured with them in 2022 and felt the emotional reactions of the audience when they played the ballads, it inspired us to write our own ballads with similar structure. They also inspired us to want to write big arena-friendly songs and to dare to dream big with our music.

THE GEMS ESSENTIALS

Like a Phoenix”

This is the song that marks our beginning. “Like a Phoenix” is the story of us rising again after going through a very tough time. The song is filled with energy and pride, catchy guitar riffs, heavy groovy drums, and powerful vocals. This is the perfect song to get you motivated!

“Send Me to the Wolves”

This is a groovy song heavily inspired by Led Zeppelin, with bluesy melodies and a catchy chorus. It’s the perfect mix between old-school classic rock and modern pop songs.

“Undiscovered Paths”

This song differs from the other songs on our album. It’s a more vulnerable track—very melancholic but hopeful. A deeper knowing that it’s all going to be fine, when you feel that you are at a crossroad and everything feels unclear. This is our reminder that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. By far the most modern rock sounding track of our album and we love it!
