Erik Grawsiö of MÅNEGARM Picks His Favorite Song from Each of Their Albums

Swedish blackened viking metal trio MÅNEGARM unleashed their much-awaited new studio album, Edsvuren, through Napalm Records on Friday, August 29th. Melding raw aggression, ancient beauty and hypnotic black metal influences, Norse mythology, rites and folkloric wisdom in a relentless frenzy of orchestral finesse—on the battlefield of Viking Metal, only these Swedish legends can emerge victorious with their thunderous anthems. With over 30 years of battle-tested heritage, MÅNEGARM continue to assert themselves as torchbearers of the genre with Edsvuren!

About their latest single, the band states:
“On ‘En blodvittneskrans,’ we unleash the fury and that is also exactly what the lyrics are about. It’s the fastest and most intense track on the album and the powerful chorus will make you turn the volume up to 11!”

Nordstjärnans Tidsålder (1998) – Det sargade landet; A song that Jonas and I composed together. It’s almost like we added every other riff until we had a full song. I especially like the soft part in the middle of the song.

Havets vargar (2000) – Trädatanke (fader tids död); A quite special and ”unorthodox” song but also a quite typical Månegarm song at that period of time. There are a lot of female vocals in this one which turned out pretty cool.

Dödsfärd (2003) – I evig tid; On this album we slowed down the pace a lot and added more of that folky touch to the songs. We used violin a lot more. I evig tid was the first song we wrote for this album and I’m still very satisfied with this song.

Vredens Tid (2005) – Hemfärd; This is one of the songs I’m most proud to have composed. This song is all that is Månegarm I would say. It contains a lot of the Månegarm stuff and we always end our live shows with this one. Some people say that Hemfärd is the Månegarm anthem and maybe they are right 🙂

Urminnes Hävd (2006) – Utfärd; a quick and catchy song that is really fun to play live.

Vargstenen (2007) – Vedergällningens Tid; This is a personal favourite and is always, almost, on our live-sets. A lot of clean vocals and a catchy chorus makes it fun to perform.

Nattväsen (2009) – Nattväsen: The title track is the best one for me on this album. I’m especially satisfied with the chorus and Janne’s violin is awesome here. Fun detail: I play the trumpet on the lead melody in the beginning of the song. It’s not that clear in the mix but it’s there somewhere haha. Fun detail II: After listening to Therions album Sirius B and the song Son of the Sun an unhealthy many times, I got the inspiration for the chorus melody.

Legions of the North (2013) – Hordes of Hel; My favourite band of all time is Motörhead (together with Running Wild) and this one is my tribute to ”Orgasmatron” which is one of the coolest songs ever.

Månegarm (2015) – Blodörn; I wanted to do a longer song, like Hemfärd, and this one came to life. Like a train, it just keeps on rolling!

Fornaldarsagor (2019) – Hervors arv; I told you earlier that I love Running Wild and I guess you can hear that in this song.

Ynglingaättens öde (2022) – En snara av guld; This one turned out better than I could imagine. The song is really simple, it’s built around one riff basically. My daughter Lea, (then 14) is singing in this song and my other daughter Tuva (then 16) is playing the main character in the music video. Proudest father in the world!!!

Edsvuren (2025) – Hör mitt kall; I like this one. Really basic but also really groovy. Just metal, no fuss 🙂
