Leicester, UK’s Hex Poseur delivers a voracious and unerringly bold soundscape, bringing together influence from across garage rock, alternative, and punk. “Footrot” is taken from Hex Poseur’s debut full-length album, Stunning, out now on Manic Kat Records.

“’Footrot’ is a strange and twisted cautionary tale of a woman struck down in her prime. This DIY video is inspired by old school horror films and gothic imagery, that reflects the darkly experimental composition of the song and its narrative.” – Hex Poseur

Inspired by stoner metal, “Footrot”—and the album as a whole—take a dark and provocative look into Hollywood sexism, with the broader concept of celebrity worship also tackled head on.

Speaking on the track, Poseur explains, “I wanted to turn it into a kind of twisted fairy tale, mixing it with the ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ nursery rhyme. The song tells a cautionary tale of a girl who becomes too confident in herself, and as a punishment she is struck down and given a debilitating disease as karma for her actions.”

Hex elaborates, “This is another common occurrence in Hollywood, when a young star becomes a confident grown woman, they are often hated and criticised for it. Women are often expected to be humble and shy rather than outspoken and can be quickly turned on when they start to become more self-assured, as they are no longer controllable.”

Sonically, the new record is a unique and captivating arrangement of influences, with the heavier intonations and Siouxsie Sioux-esque early grunge adding a darker aesthetic. The melody is still abundant, with Poseur’s emotive and punk-lined garage-rock soundscape creating the backdrop for a poignant but unerringly engaging set of tracks.

Stunning is out now, on Manic Kat Records.
