For Japanese legends Boris, 2019 has been a year of opening and closing chapters. The trio released a new double-LP LφVE & EVφL, reissued their seminal albums Akuma No Uta and Feedbacker, and just closed out a behemoth North American tour alongside experimental duo Uniform. In celebration of the year’s myriad milestones, Boris has released a video for their droning torch song “Shadow of Skull.”
Continuing to tinker and toil with their sound since the 2017 release of DEAR, Boris have pivoted onward a more organic, non-grid literary style that LφVE & EVφL showcases. An unsurprisingly ambitious pursuit of new sound and showcase of old hallmarks, LφVE & EVφL exists as two independent works, encapsulating conflicting connotations. Interweaving and entangling with one another, the tracks that comprise LφVE & EVφL gradually erode, becoming utterly singular.
